Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, Rahul Dravid said encouraged to "do not even think about retiring" for the series of test cricket in India last October.

Former India captain, who scored three centuries in the recent disastrous tour of England was going through a lean patch last year, but Ponting said Dravid not pay attention to critics.

His only century in 2010 had previously been against Bangladesh and achieved only half a century, during the series against Australia.

"I remember after our last series in India was not much talk and speculation about Dravid being done," Ponting was quoted as saying in ESPNcricinfo.

"I actually went and met him at the end of the series and said," Do not even think about retiring "because I just saw some things in some of its entries that suggested he was still a player very, very good.

"I just said" do not let it wear, do not let you down. I received a text message similar before and after the ashes of him too. "

After the home series against Australia, Dravid scored two centuries against New Zealand before a series of low scores in South Africa.
